I Love Revision Week! [Jun. 12th, 2004|05:00 pm]
I woke up this morning, having engaged in three consecutive nights of drunken debauchery.

Our goal on Wednesday was to do PR for our party.  We went to the Regatta in Toowong and got trashed and invited the entire bar to the party on Thursday.

I was hungover Thursday, but I rallied for Caley, Sarah, and Bri's party.  Not many people showed up, maybe only 30 or 40, but it was still a blast cause we knew everyone there.  Leslie got trashed on her $4.99 Passion Pop. Haha.

Friday night at Rena and Ally's place was completely epic.  The party was over-run with adorable sweet skater boys, and i loved them all.  I also met Sam, a hot Ukranian fellow. Ally, Rena and I taught all the aussies how to play beer pong, then, at 12:30 am everyone left the house and went to the RE, where we stayed until 2 am.

I love Australia.

bedazzled [Mar. 5th, 2004|10:46 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |still playing DMB]

As I got ready for bed, I wondered why there was a street lamp shining directly into my bedroom window, but then I realized it was 5:44 am, and the "street lamp" was daylight...

Coincidence or Lady Luck? [Mar. 3rd, 2004|05:23 pm]
[mood | exhausted]
[music |Gavin Degraw: Nice to Meet You Anyway]

Today, as I wandered into my Psychology and Law class, approximately 20 minutes late, I grabbed a syllabus and headed up the stairs of the mid-sized lecture auditorium. The class was PACKED. Near the top, I saw a seat open between two boys, near the isle. "Perfect," I said to myself. So, I sit down, after struggling briefly with the odd swivel seat (australian desks...) I finally settle myself, and look around, and, out of the hundreds of students, I had managed to sit next to Greg, from Australearn orientation. Coincidence, or Lady Luck? You decide.

It occurred to me, as I blindly roamed the UQ campus today, that the uni is quite like an amusement park...there's all these hidden jungles and buildings, it's warm, and there are thousands of people strolling around. Unfortunately, at Uni, the students queue for class, instead of amusement park rides.

Yes, I know those numbers are weird, but you're just gonna have to deal with it, a'ight? Remember, that you shouldn't call from your cell phone or house phone unless you have free international long distance...the cheapest way to call is to use a calling card, from your home phone.

fate, and everything that involves [Mar. 2nd, 2004|05:38 pm]
[music |Secret Smile......Semisonic]

Ashley sat next to Dan Wilson at Block E on Saturday. Now, I feel as if my fate is inexoribly linked with Dan Wilson, and this leads me to ask a few questions. For example, why wasn't I the one to sit next to DW? Is that a sign about my trip to Australia? Is fate telling me, "Sky, you shouldn't have gone to Australia?" Or is fate testing me, "Sky, you had the choice between Dan Wilson and Australia, and you chose Australia?" And if so, is that fair?

A few notes about Australian food and restaurants:
1) Burger King is called Hungary Jacks- WTF mate
2) There are restaurants here which are "BYOB". At these restaurants, you are supposed to bring a bottle of wine, champagne, etc., and the restaurant will refridgerate the bottle and serve it, as required, with your meal. Lets get us some of those.
3) A candy bar here is called a "Lolly," and somehow, that name makes it seem so delicious
4) The chocolate here is just better.
5) They specialize in bizzare potato chip flavours here, such as "chicken" flavored, or "salt and vinegar." Anyone who knows me, knows how much I'm loving those salt and vinegar chips.
6) Starburst took over Australia by storm...they have like 40 kinds of "Starburst" candy here.
7) At Dominos, the large pizza is the size of a small pizza at home. We were so shocked the first time that we ordered pizza, that we actually called to confirm that we had gotten a real large. The Dominos man called us greedy americans and hung up. (not really)

I had my first day of economics today. And, I really like it. Who knows if I still will in a few months, but it's an interesting revelation.

Keep it real.

I love Dan Wilson.

A heartfelt wish [Mar. 1st, 2004|09:22 pm]
After my entry this morning, I was reading a bit more on the twins website, and I'm ready to make a prediction/ heartfelt wish. Ok, what with Henry Blaco and Rob Bowen ready to back up our Joey behind the plate, and with fine young players such as Justin Morneau, Lew Ford, and Michael Restovich primed to DH, when they're not needed in the field, we have NO USE for Matthew LeCroy. None. He's worthless, always has been. Come on Twins, lets stop wasting our valuable roster space.

We Come Out Swinging [Mar. 1st, 2004|08:59 pm]
[mood | anxious]
[music |First day of school: Snoop Dogg]

I just got an email from my mom, and it said, "Good luck on your first day...the party is now over." If there was anyone to remind me about the harsh realities of the first day of classes, it would, of course, be my mother. Now, I am actually feeling a little anxious about this whole "first day" business. Coming from a small private university such as St. Thomas to an ENORMOUS university such as University of Queensland is quite a change. For example. What are these "tutorials" and "labs" everyone keeps talking about? And, will I be able to understand my professors? Will they incessently shout "crikey!" and "g'day mate"?

Now, lets talk about something important. This years Minnesota Twins. Now, as you may or may not know, I consider myself something of a Twins "fanatic." And, obviously, my obsession with the Twins will continue, although I am halfway round the world. I worry that the teams success seems to rest in the hands of young Joe Mauer, but, I have faith that Joey will make it happen. In conclusion, this Doug quote gives me hope for the 2004 season: "I don't think we're the favorites," Mientkiewicz said. "I don't think we were the favorites last year come mid-season. It doesn't make a difference if you're favored. It's like saying you look good on paper. Who cares what you look like on paper? The one thing I will say that every time people turn their backs on this group, we come out swinging."

Crikey! [Feb. 29th, 2004|11:42 am]
[music |Diamonds on The Inside- Mr. Ben Harper]

The Velvet Underground is now up and running, thanks to some encouragement from a certain Jessica Reis.
If you're reading this, I hope you know that I am in Australia.
More specifically, I am in Brisbane, Australia, living here: http://www.campusapartments.com/altitude/

My favorite thing about Australia, so far, is that you can actually buy a liter of cola.

My 2nd favorite thing about Australia is that I know someone who knows Steve Erwin, i.e. "the crocidile hunter." Crikey! This weekend, we traveled up the coast to Noosa and Moloolaba. Beautiful beaches, classic Australia. I also had my first youth hostel experience, which was quite enlightening. Any how, on Saturday, we went to a genuine Australian "Barbie," a.k.a. Barbeque. This is where the Steve Erwin story begins. Now, the Australian Zoo, home of the crocidile hunter, is quite near the city of Maloolaba. The young man with whom we were speaking happens to be family friends with none other than Steve-o himself, and helped him to capture young crocidiles when he was younger. These days, he surfs with Steve, whom, interestingly enough, is a terrible surfer. Now, is Steve-o as eccentric as he seems on TV, you ask? Well, let me tell you a story, young friend. Evidently, when the crocidile hunter was surfing with our friend and his mates, he spotted some sort of large turtle. At the sight, he yelled, "Crikey!" and swam right over to the turtle. After examining the turtle, he remarked, "Eh, she's a beaut! We're going to release her, because she belongs in the wild." Oh Steve, never a day of rest, when you're the crocidle hunter.

I'm Blind! [Jan. 26th, 2004|09:21 pm]
Oh man, I just got two comments! Life is good. So, here's a story. I had to go to the eye doctor today for a checkup. They dialated my eyes, because they like to do that in those kind of places. Then, the Dr. sent me off to drive home, remarking, "it'll seem a little bright at first, but you'll be fine to drive home." Now, mind you that we had near-blizzard conditions today, which means that it was very white, and quite bright outside. I was given a pair of flimsy glasses to perch between my glasses and my eyes, which is obviously a brilliant setup. Long story short, be glad that you weren't driving through mound around 11 a.m. this morning.

Musings on the journal... [Jan. 26th, 2004|09:12 pm]
[music |Jet- Are You Gonna Be My Girl?]

Now, I'm a little nervous to start a live journal, because Jessica's is soooo Witty (capital W) that I fear my ability to competitively compete. And, I don't expect that you'll like my journal as much as Jessica's, or even Lindsey's, even though LIndsey's is lame because she only has two entries.
